Beaches and best surfing spots on Gran Canaria

Theres a lot of beaches on Gran Canaria where we do our aquatic sports.
We will try to describe each beach with its advantages and what they offer.

  • Las Canteras Beach
    A beautiful beach with light and soft sand, all up in the North of the Island. This is the biggest beach of the capital Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and is often very suitable for surfing and other water sports. At the long the boulevard you can have a nice walk or drink and eat at one of the many typical Canarian restaurants..

  • Playa del Hombre
    a sandy beach at the North-East of the Island with soft sand. Is this area you can enjoy often good waves for surfing. Very quiet. Located close to Telde.

  • Playa de Melenara
    a quiet and non-touristic beach at the East coast, close to Telde. Dark volcanic sand, life guard, bars, restaurant on the beach and the marina Salinetas close.

  • Playa Ojo de Garza
    the unknown beach of the Island, just at the North of the Airport. A picturesque village with old houses literly on the beach. Typicall Canaria bar/restaurant at the corner with a great view. Many times good waves for beginning surfers.

  • Playa del Cabron
    a rocky area with just a very small sandy beach in the middle of no where. A popular place for camping and tracking. As well very popular for diving at the small riff or in the sea caves. Close to Arinaga, but a bit difficult to find.

  • Bahia de Arinaga
    a stone beach with a new boulevard. Many local people are living in this quiet village.

  • Playa del Aguila
    a stony beach in the bay of San Agustin and Bahia Feliz. This place is good for wind surfing, but less comfortable for swimming.


  • Playa de San Agustin
    a beach with dark volcanic sand. This beach is very suitable for beginning surfers or wind surfing. Most of the time this place is not too crowded, but can be a bit windy. Sun beds and parasols are available.

  • Bahia del Ingles
    the big bay at Playa del Ingles with the long sandy beach which connects to Maspalomas and San Agustin. Mostly good waves for surfers with not too much experience or beginners. The wide area with the sand dunes of Maspalomas is perfect for long walks.

  • Playa de Maspalomas
    a popular beach in the South of Gran Canaria, close to the cosy boulevard of Costa Meloneras. A long and sandy beach with only in the beginning near the lighthouse Faro de Maspalomas some stones and rocks in the water. From here you can make a long walk over the beach or through the sand dunes all the way to Playa del Ingles.

  • The famous sand dunes of Gran Canaria!
    Walking through the dunes you feel like you are in the middle of the Sahara. Wide views over the dunes to Maspalomas, San Agustin and Playa del Ingles. A good place for long walks or just relaxing in for example the nudist area.


  • El Faro de Maspalomas
    one of the authentic old pieces of Gran Canaria, protected by the goverment. This is one of the oldest lighthouses of the island, in the middle of the buzzing touristic area of Maspalomas and Costa Meloneras.

  • Playa de Arguineguin
    a small almost private beach with view to the cement factory of El Pajar. Sometimes good waves for surfing. New light sand and a small playground for the kids.

  • Bahia de Arguineguin
    a brand new beach which the ayuntamiento recently converted from a stony unpleasant area into a beach with soft sand and a nice view over the bay and the marina.


  • Playa de la Verga, Patalavaca
    a small sandy beach between Puerto Rico and Arguineguin, in the South of Gran Canaria. This beach is perfect for beginning surfers, if there are enough waves. Bars, restaurants and toilets at the beach. Sunbed and parasol hire.

  • Playa de Puerto Rico
    one of the most popular beaches of the island for tourists but as well for local people. The foto is made on a cloudy day, which is quite unusual here. On this beach you have less wind and better weather then on other beaches and as well plenty of watersport possibilities like pedal boats, jet-ski and sailboat rental, banana ride, diving and a spectacular ride in the Big Red, the jet-boat. Loads of bars, restaurants and shops close to the beach.


  • Playa de los Amadores
    a beautiful beach in the South, close to Puerto Rico with white sand. No waves because of the piers, but perfect for snorkling, scuba diving and swimming. Loads of bars and restaurants, first aid service, life guard and toilets.

  • Playa de Mogan
    a beautiful area with a complete new boulevard and shopping streets. Since a short time there is new white sand on this beach, before it was dark volcanic sand. In the valley of Mogan they constructing many high quality hotels and holiday accommodations. The beach is not suitable for surfing, but other water sports link snorkling, swimming or diving are possible.

  • Playa de Veneguera
    a protected area without hotels and appartments but just with bananas and tomatoes. A difficult unpaved road full of stones leads finally to the stony beach. Here you can enjoy absolute silence in the middle between the sea and the mountains. Perfect for some fishing or camping. A former trading place for sales and transport of fruit which still is partly visible. Many ships moored here to load fruit a long time ago.

  • Playa de la Aldea
    a non touristical beach at the West coast of Gran Canaria, near the village San Nicolas de Tolentino. A picturesque place with a very small fishing harbour with some boats of the local fishermen. Mostly this place is quite windy.
